Math:
We started off with a lesson on calculating the area of 2-D figures vs. calculating the surface area of 3-D shapes. The students then worked at applying these concepts to some problems from the textbook. Finally, the students worked on a hands-on problem involving surface of a rectangular prism (which was assigned for homework below).
Homework:
Complete the following challenge using a pencil, a ruler, tape, and 2 pieces of 11x17 paper (You can use 4 pieces of regular sized paper if needed):
Create a net for a rectangular prism that has a surface area of exactly 1000cm2. Construct the rectangular prism from the net (tip: you may want to include tabs to make assembly easier).
Good luck!
