French language:
Our day started with gym with lots of shooting and dribbling drills. Excellent effort especially to the poor girls on the basketball team who had just completed basketball tryouts. We went to the computer lab to continue with history research, 1st nations residential schools (gr6) and 1715-1850 timeline (gr7). See success criteria in Pages. Then we paired up to talk about our xmas holidays.
Science:
Gr6's completed 6 experiments to learn the 6 properties of air. Gr7's completed experiments to learn about magnitute and force.

Math:
Both the grade 6's and 7's spent some time revisiting and brushing up on their division skills and strategies (both long and short division). We were even fortunate enough to have Mrs. Nebb drop by and jump in as a guest-teacher. :) Although it was a brief departure from decimals, the review will definitely prove helpful when the students get to dividing with decimals later next week.

We are starting a new novel study! Over the next few weeks, the students will be reading, discussing and responding to William Golding's Lord of the Flies. This will no doubt be a challenging text for the students but I have every confidence that they will be motivated and mature enough to tackle it. Today we distributed a copy to each student and completed a pre-reading activity that explored the students' present attitudes towards some of the central themes and motifs that will play out in the novel. The students then read independently or in small groups for the last part of the period.
Homework: Students are to finish reading chapter 1 of Lord of the Flies for Friday.
