French language:

Gr7 students worked independently on causes & effects of their significant historical events timeline. The gr6's and I read how First Nations argued that they deserved the equal rights because they fought in both world wars. This led to education reforms, voting rights, and treaty land reclaims. We also read how the supreme court determined that treaty land be returned First Nations. These "revendications" led to large sum payments for First Nations. Each student is to research the causes and effects of one of these "revendications" and what the First Nations did with this money (see success criteria revendications in Pages).

I also posted the gr6 science test summary and Carnaval event procedure success criteria in Pages.

Math:

We did some collaborative learning in math today. The grade 6's and 7's worked in pairs on estimating sums and differences with decimals. They then presented their respective strategies and as a group we sorted and classified each strategy according to whether it was more "convenient" or more "accurate."

Because of all the recent snow days, we will be playing catch-up in math over then next few weeks. The students can expect to see a math homework package come home this weekend.

English Language:

The students wrote a content quiz for chapter 3 of LOTF. We then discussed and re-enacted some of the major plot events of the chapter. We began exploring one of the central themes of the novel: civilization vs. savagery. The students collaboratively created a conceptual word web to help them understand and differentiate between these two important terms.

Homework: Read chapter 4 of LOTF. Content quiz on Friday.
