French language/histoire:

This morning gr7's independently read the last chapter of the history text, the birth of a nation. They learned how upper and lower Canada united. Gr7 students chose one of five significant events from 1713-1850 and is responsible for creating a timeline and oral presentation (see success criteria in links). The gr6's and I read about residential schools.

English Language: 

We watched the film version of The Giver (with frequent breaks for performances in the "Dance Extravaganza)." Following the film, we had a stimulating discussion about the differences between the film and the novel. We compared and contrasted the two endings and we explored the "Hollywoodification" of the original story in the film.
