French language:

After drama, students continued with their crowd picture for art for our giant Where's Waldo collage. Then we read another chapter of our guided reading books.

-Mme. McCurdy

English Language:

The students started the period off with a content quiz for chapter 2 of Lord of the Flies. Again, I was impressed with their engagement with and comprehension of the text so far. Next, we did some work on character development in the novel. As we make our way through the novel, the students will be constructing character profiles for each of the main characters. They are expected to add details and page references to them after reading each chapter.

Math:

We briefly reviewed strategies for estimating sums and differences with decimals (using rounding), as well as adding and subtracting decimals to arrive at exact solutions.

Homework:

For Monday, the students need to finish their "Quickwrite" topics from chapter 2 (see topics below). They also need to read chapter 3 as there will be a content quiz.

Quickwrite Topics - Chapter 2

Beastie
The "littluns" are afraid of the beastie in the dark. Are you or were you ever afraid of a beastie in the dark? How did it feel to think something was out there that was going to get you?

Crash
Who do you think shot down the boys' plane? Why do you think that?

Signal
What do you think about their idea to light the signal fire? How important do you think the fire is? Why?

Glasses
Piggy's glasses are possibly the most important item that the kids have. How is it ironic that Piggy has them? What could that mean when we think about the bigger picture of humanity.
